Since my last post – in response to an email I received from one of my clients who shared their frustration of participating in a photo course elsewhere where the instructor encouraged participants to use advanced camera techniques which were literally far too advanced for those on the course… and who struggled to get to grips with what was suggested – I’ve had a huge response from others who have experienced the same thing. And in some sense I’m quite saddened to hear that there are so called instructors out there who claim to be helping others when in fact they’re teaching stuff that is far from helpful. And in some cases clearly disheartening. To everyone who has experienced this so called advice, instruction or suggestion to go way beyond their current capabilities, I have one thing to say: Please, please don’t get disheartened just because you are not doing what others suggest who imply by definition that you won’t be any good unless you do. Ignore those who say, ‘It’s my way or the highway.’ Just get out there and take photographs using the knowledge you already have…you’ll know when it’s time to move on and learn more in order to improve your images. Trust me on this one…you will know when the time is right. There are lots of great and kindly photographers out there who never forget that they were learners too once and are only too willing to share their knowledge.
Thank you again to all those who’ve contacted me in the last couple of days. Keep doing what you do and ignore the vanity of others.
Happy snappin’ folks
